Fall and Winter Colour Trends for Young Girls in 2019

The warm days of early autumn – hanging on to every last drop of sunshine – are well and truly over. However, if one thing’s for sure it’s that loads of us love these next few chillier months as it’s a chance for us to wrap up warm in all the best that autumn/winter fashion has to offer. From big, fluffy jumpers to hats and scarves, staying warm can still be stylish. This season, there are a few key colour trends that are set to take over. So take note and prepare your wardrobe.

The runway collections at the Autumn/Winter 2019 fashion weeks earlier this year showed us that there a number of stand-out shades that we should all be wearing this season, and now you can incorporate them into your wardrobe too. Bold and bright colours were a big hit – from deep purples, to pastel yellows, and even neons – the more colourful, the better. Whatever your sartorial needs, fear not. We’ve put together the perfect guide for picking this season’s best colours and making them your own.

Blues and Purples:

Dark blues and purples are slightly more typical autumn/winter colours. The AW19 runway collections were brimming full with dark shades of navy, indigo and violet to suit a range of tastes and styles. Designers like Dior and Salvatore Ferragamo stole the show with midnight blues while Sies Marjan, Dries van Noten and Christian Wijnants brought us beautiful purples.

Blue is an incredibly versatile colour; it can work for a variety of occasions from casual to formal. For example, this blue party gown is perfect for any formal event like a wedding, birthday or bar mitzvah.

The puffed sleeves and wide skirt add to the dramatic effect and with flowers on the sleeves to finish, you’ve got an instant on-trend outfit. On the more casual side, this navy check tweed dress is a subtle and sophisticated option.

Tweed is a classic fabric that never goes out of style, and with gold threads laced through the dark blue fabric of the dress, it’s a twist on the standard trend.

Neons:

Fluorescent and fabulous, the neon colours of the 80s are back with a vengeance for this autumn/winter. Think traffic cone oranges, glaring greens and shocking pinks. Wearing neon can seem scary but designers have shown that it’s doable in some shape or form for everybody.

Designers like Balenciaga, Rejina Pyo and Off-White showed that this bold trend can be incorporated into any wardrobe, but if you’re not feeling quite so brave just yet, there are other ways to get the look. Red is certainly less intimidating than the typical neons, but a bright red can still make an impact and is a great choice especially for younger girls as we head into the holiday period. If you really want to make an impact, accessories with jewellery or a bag of the same shade, or balance it out with neutral tones instead.

Forest Biome:

You’re – rightly – probably wondering what on earth Forest Biome is. Glowsly.com identified this “dark, cool green” in their round-up of all the best colours on the catwalk for the AW19 season. Named for its evocative, arboreal tone, this gorgeous green is another perfect shade as it nears Christmas and the party season as it reminds us of the fir trees that we might associate with this time.

New Zealand-born designer, Emilia Wickstead, who is known for her strong, feminine designs, is just one of many who decided to incorporate the colour into their collections. Her simple yet memorable silhouettes stand out among the crowd and are the absolute emblem of what it is to be an empowered and stylish woman.

For younger girls, this is a really easy to colour to wear and the options are endless. There’s this subtly-sparkled winter piece, with balloon-hem sleeves, which is perfect for winter parties, or this satin jewelled gown which is more formal. With a tulle underlayer and waterfall pleats, it’s total luxury and is sure to make any young girl feel incredible. However you choose to approach it, this autumn/winter trend is certainly one of the most accessible and beautiful.

Sparkle:

Though not technically a colour or shade in itself, sparkles and shimmers were undeniably a top hit at the AW19 shows. With Christmas and holiday season right around the corner, this trend has come at the perfect time and is appropriate for all kinds of events.

Michael Hapern is a young British designer whose knack for producing sequin-filled, glittery collections has shot him to stardom, and seen him set trends over the past year or so. On the other hand, classic and iconic fashion brands like Chanel and Dior have also indulged in the trend in recent collections, proving it’s a trend to follow.
